I put my new calipers on this morning and they're not very easy to slide back and forth. They'll move if I smack them with my rubber mallet, but I can't move them by hand.
I greased the contact points and the rubber lined pins when I put them together with the silicone that came with the parts.
Since they were rusted to crap and didn't move when I took them off, I'm not sure if they're supposed to be that way or if it was the rust that kept them from moving.
Thanks for any help!
Eric
They should/will release as required when brakes are released... if you can rotate the wheel without major drag that is fine....... too loose and they will rattle.
with the new calipers installed and the pads in place you will not be able to move the caliper... the caliper slides only allow to even the clamping force when the brakes are applied. Trying to move the caliper after they and the pads have been replace isn't possible with out pushing the caliper piston into the caliper... even if the pads were not in place I would think it to be difficult to move the caliper on it's slides as the pin and slide design of your truck makes it a very tight fit and not that easly moved. If you have lubed the slides and pins you should be good to go... if your worried they are not working properly then take a quick trip around the block... use the brakes a couple of times and jack up the truck and spin the wheels... a stuck caliper or slide will make difficult to spin the wheel... hope that helps...
