Unhappy highlight problems

hi guys i have a 1986 Ford F250 i am trying to make it legal for my safety check comin up. and i need your help because when i turn my low lights on and switch to high lights the low lights turn off and there is no highlight that turn on. can you guys pleas help me out.

replace your dimmer switch.my guess.these switches get dirty and corrode from being under your left foot.

I'd first test to see if it is the dimmer switch:
  • Unplug Dimmer Switch
  • Turn Headlights on
On the Dimmer Connector Jump the Red/Yellow (hot) to one of:
  • Light Green/Black for High Beam.
  • Red/Black for Low Beam

no it was the dimmer switch i change it and it worked fine thanks again...

My neighbor came over one night and told me the headlights were on in my '72 E-300.
I checked the switch, it was off.
I removed the switch, they were still on.
I removed the dimmer switch and they were still on.
Ghost van.
I found some wires near the windshield wiper motor that were fused together that was causing the problem.
Damnedest thing I ever saw.
Easy to fix once I found it.
