I am considering changing from my 05' 6.0L to a new V-10 and get away from the diesel engine. I have had two 6.0L's and one 7.3L engine and am frustrated with the last 6.0L, some problems that dealer hasn't been able to fix yet. Anyway my question is about the V-10 tranny, is it the same transmission that comes with the diesel engine? How well does the tranny in the V-10 hold up to towing if it is different from the diesel tranny? Also is it necessary to put on an external tranny cooler on the V-10? I never did on the 6.0L and towing 12,500 my temps never go over 165 with a Magtech deep pan.
Same transmission.... but the filters are differiant, some have an external screw on filter though and some dont. Remove your Mag pan before you sale it...i want one.
i beleive all 05 up SD's use the 5speed auto Torqshift...
its supposed to be a excellent tranny behind either engine...
did u have troubles with ur 05 SD's tranny ???
Thanks for the replly, and no I have never had any problems with this tranny in the 05', just engine problems as of this past trip. I was hoping Ford used the same tranny as I have come to like the shifting pattern and the tow/haul mode is excellent when going down grades especially with the diesel. I installed the MagHytech pan mostly for going out west and towing my fifth wheel, at 12,500# I thought it to be a good idea. It does great keeping the temps down, I have only seen the trans temperature go to 165 degrees pulling a 5 mile long grade at 7%, and the turbo temp was up over 1200 degrees before I topped the hill. So, yes I lilke the transmission and the tranny pan.
I think that you may have to look at the bell housing as your only issue from the diesel to the V-10. As others have said it is the same trans. You will probably need to do something with the radiators and such as well.
