Questions

Hello, and thanks for all the good reading in this forum/website. Anyway I am a fairly new 2004 Ford Excursion, 6.0 turbo deisel owner with a few questions. I bought the Excursion about a year ago and really only drove it when i needed to tow my boat, about 5K-6K a year. Well I recently sold my Jeep Wrangler so now my Excursion is a DD. that being said I think it is time to do some learning. So, thanks in advance of all your help

First, concerning milage (MPG). I have 60K miles on my Excursion and in town I only get about 13 MPG and on the highway with the Cruise Control set at 70 MPH I get about 15.5 MPG. From reading here it seems most everyone is getting better. Am I expecting/wanting to much? I am pretty light on the skinny pedal so i do not think that is the problem. Also, I do not beleive there are any mods to my Excursion. Any suggestions/comments are welcome

Again there is alot of good info here and kind of hard to make heads or tails of some of it. Anyway, my Excursion is alot louder than the 2005 Dodge Ram turbo deisel I traded it for. I understand there may be something I can add to the fuel tank to help that out?

My Excursion seems to be a bit slow/sluggish when I compare it to the 2005 Dodge I owned. Is that normal. I understand that without driving a Dodge it will be hard to compare but...

Again, my 2005 Dodge was pretty easy to maintain. Can someone point me to a forum/list that will let me know what I need to do on a regular basis.

Well, I guess that is all for now. Thank you for your time with these matters.

Sounds like you need the Guide to choosing mods excel spreadsheet. (It will be able to answer a lot of your questions instead of searching through multiple forum posts) I think bismic is the one who usually distibutes it but if you PM your email addy i'll send it to you.

Your ex is a bit heavier than a truck so it should seem a bit slower. You could add a SCT tuner and scoop up some extra punch when you need it. But 15.5mpg is about right. MPG depends on so many factors you can't really take anyone elses and compare. The tire size, tread pattern, tire psi, road smoothness (yes this is a big factor), and amount of hills can all effect MPG.

During a trip to Savannah GA, there is a long stretch of highway that had sectional concrete that was not very even. It gave that "bump-bump....bump-bump.....bump-bump......" effect. After I got onto asphalt my mpg went up 2-3mpg.

So compare your numbers to other Ex's in your area for a real idea of where your numbers are.
