Wiring harness change
I picked up a nice '78 F150 4x4,4 speed,300/6 cyl Custom from a fellow who removed the wiring harness to use in a monster truck he built. A friend of mine has a small salvage yard & has several trucks in this year range I can use as donors. Is the wiring in a '79 F100 XLT Ranger 6cyl compatable? The only '78 he has is a 302/8. If need be,I can take what I need from any or all of the trucks to make mine go. I don't have a good wiring diagram or other info.
With a little work, this truck will make a great little driver.
Any & all help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks JIM
__ 78'-79' share the same harness.
Providing that you use the same style/year gauge cluster that the harness came with.
Just take note of the cluster-socket that the harness of the truck you pull it from.
There are a few diffences inbetween the large V8's & the small V8's/strait-6's. But nothing that you can't solve with a good attention to detail.

Plus the transmission NSS/reverse switch is different inbetween the manual VS. the auto.
The auto-tranz connects over by the fan box.(pass. side)
While the manual connects over by the driver side. (near the ing.control-box coming out of the firewall)
But don't worry, both outlets are available on the 78'-79' harness.
(Manual has a small [2 wires] reverse lead harness for the reverse switch.)
(For the auto-tranz it's just the NSS itself.- You could even use a new one if you wish.)
