basic tranny questions

hi, ive got a c-4 in my maverick and it wont shift into second, and i cant find the vacuum line for the vacuum modulator... my questions are- does the vacuum modulator get hooked to manifold or ported vacuum? and would the vacuum modulator not being hooked up cause it not to shift?
thanks in advance

Might not shift right, but not shift at all???

The one on our '66 390 was on the back of the carb, IIRC. You got any fittings back there with no hose or the end of a hose hanging?

Manifold vacuum, vacuum should decrease with raising the engine rpm.

Do you have manual 2nd?

no second gear at all... first and reverse are fine but it wont go past 30 mph because it wont shift. would it have hurt the tranny running without fluid in park? my tranny line going to the cooler was off and it pumped most of the fluid out... i filled it and now i have no second. im workin on fixing it up to take it on a road trip.

No it wont hurt it running out of fluid in park.

When you put the shifter in second it stays in first?

It wont shift (or at least very late) with the vacuum line disconnected.
