There's a 65 F100 with a great radiator support in the junk yard. I'm thinking to grab this for my '66, but I'll have to bring the tools. It seems to be easy access as the bumper, front grill, and headlights are already removed. Is it welded to the side apron area or will I simply be able to un-bolt it from the fenders and aprons?
You may also want to take the 65 inner fenders. Suggest compare the inner fenders on your 66 to the 65 radiator support. I swapped 65 radiator support for a 66 and had to go back and get the 66 inner fenders. I believe there are 2 styles of inner fender for the 65 where it attaches to the radiator support, one where the sheet metal has more of a rounded contour, and the other has more of an angle. Anyhow, may want to check and not have to make another trip, although imagine with some refab can make it fit.
If you can get the core support and inner fenders and end up not using something you can always sell what you don't use and gat some or all of your money back to fund the project.
Good point BikerDude, the rad support is a little different between 65 and 66, if it has a radiator get it also, it might come in handy as you may need the brackets
Well, as luck would have it, the truck was tagged wrong and was actually a '69. Since I was already there, I grabbed the core support anyway. I was hoping that I could use the bottom portion to patch into my '66, but I don't think that'll work. As BikerDude said, it'll be something to sell.
