Wanted to know if anyone would recommend (or not recommend) a good hitch, and if you think one is even necessary for my applicaiton....
I have a '08 F250 CC short bed PSD with trailer brake commander and will be towing a 20ft enclosed trailer. My guess is that it's a 10,000lb GVWR and that it weights somewhere around 4k empty?? I doubt I'll ever come close to maxing out the weight limit but it will be towed on longer trips so I would like to set it up correctly.
I like using them, along with a good sway control setup, for maximum safety margin.
You don't really need them 99.9% of the time if you load the trailer properly. But for that 0.1% of the time - like when you're towing it empty in the rain. And there is a stiff but blustery wind coming from your rear quarter. And you need to make an emergency evasive manuever to miss the 40 pound chunk of concrete lying in your lane. With your grandkids in the backseat.
THEN they are really and truly lifesavers.
I like the Equal-I-Zer or Reese Twin Cam systems as they combine WD and sway control in a simple to hoop up system. I personally use the Equal-I-Zer as it is not as "finicky" when backing up.

Any suggestions would be helpful.
Your IBC and torq shift trans will tow nicely !!!!
I've used Reese towing products for years. Reese, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch are all Cequent products now. Equal-I-Zer good also. I use a sway control as well as equalizer bars. Most of the time you won't need sway control with an F250, but for the 1% of the time you do it's money well spent. The Tow Command Package that Ford puts on these trucks is fantastic. That is the one thing I really missed when I got rid of my 05 6.0L PSD for the F150 I have now.
I have been using the Reese 1200# dual cam systems on my two trailers one is 34' 10,700# other is 26' 7,000# it is better than just weight distribution. The next step up is Hensley big $$$
Weight distribution is a good thing...
I have the Blue Ox weight distribution and sway control all in one...It's a great hitch..I tow a 30ft 10.5K toyhauler and it stays rock solid with any kind of wind or weather.
I think a WD hitch is advantageous if for no other reason than ride quality - all of the weight of your rig is spread over as many axles as possible rather than concentrated on just the trailer, or just your rear axle. Make for a more relaxing tow.
IMO, they are 100% worth it and make it easy to feel comfortable. like others have said, it is not a necessity but it does help in the situations it was designed for. My dad really likes it on his 150, due to the elimination of front end float, but thats not as noticeable in a 250. I have the Reese setup and use it every time i tow a trailer over 8000 lbs (no reason on this number, just a number i imposed on myself) The really nice thing is that these pop up on craigslist every few weeks or so, and you can get one cheap. I paid $100 cash for the entire setup: hitch, sway control, equalizer arms, and trailer neck clamps
