I'm looking for an alternative parking brake for the 53-56 model year f100. I have a few of the original hand pull types but would prefer a foot pedal, was wondering if there was one that some of you have used from a later model year car or truck that would be a close bolt in. Thanks in advance as I know you will come through for me as you usually do.

I used a foot pedal from a mid 80's ford truck. then got special cable from Control Cables. I drilled 2 holes thru the firewall to mount the back side, and the dash for the handle side..
I used one from a 90's explorer, two bolts hold it in. $20 buck with cable from pull-a-part.
Hi Jaye, did you have to do much to modify it to fit, I do have access to a explorer that has extensive front end damage and hopefully not to bent up where the pedal is. Thanks for the picture.
John
SacVintage has one on page 328 that I was thinking of putting in my '49. Its $200 and requires a different pull cable, which sells at $90.
Thanks, I'm sure it is a nice one but that is a little to rich for my blood. I'm searching for something that is free or close to it and is fairly easy to modify.

works great..

I'll check into this possiblity too, as there was an f150 late 80's early 90's at are local dump if it hasn't been bulldozed into a pile of scrap. Thanks for the heads up on that one.
John
I only had to drill one hole I used one that was already in the cross brace in the kick panel area. I also used a peice of 1" square tubing to extend to one hole and keekp the bracket from leaning. I can also be adjusted so the pedal isn't as high as mine is, also just 3 bolts to get it out of the explorer.

Thanks Sam, I picked up a park brake pedal from an Explorer and a mid 80's F100 today, the f150, is almost a direct bolt on,very little modification is going to have to be done for it to fit. Thanks again for the tip. Question; did you route the gable through the original location at the trans cover? Was it hard to get a match up to fit?

I used a custom cable, and routed it nearly the same.. but I made a new tunnel cover, cause I replaced the front floor pan. you can see it here. It comes down from the pedal assembly, then loops up to come down the firewall kickout.
Thanks again Sam, I see you have run your wires through the floor as well, you must have a very clean looking firewall as well.

I'll post a pic later today.. (this one is a little dark) but brake booster, throttle cable and a/c & heat hoses is all.
the silver tube on the top of the manifold carries the wiring to the engine/starter/alternator.. up from the floor.
there are two weatherproof connectors down near the tranny for engine removal.
(still way too much stuff tho.. fuel lines, vacuum lines, cables)
the front light wiring goes across the floor under the cab, into the chassis rail and out the front (another weatherproof connector), up thru the parking light housing into the grill.
Look for a full size Ford van. The bone yards are full of them. I have a '93 E-350 and it has one that would be great, There is no release to fool around with trying to mount. You push down on it to set it and push again to realeae it. I never could figure out why they only used it in the vans. Like I said, mine is a '93 and I don't know how many years they kept using this pedal. My guess is that they are still using it b ut I don't know.
If you have a Pull-A-Part near you I would say that you can get one for less than ten bucks. BTW, get the flex cable that goes with it too.
Here is mine. It came out of a Jeep CJ? I bought it for 5.00 on ebay. It was practically a bolt in. Made modest rework of stock cable to work with it and shortened the release handle shaft. Works perfect!
