when you pull the front axle out of the pumpkin... what is the procedure.. does it just slide out and then back in??? do I need to mark it for reinstall to go back in on the same splines???
the bearings are pre loaded so you will need to carefully pry it out with a couple of pry bars and make sure it doesnt fall on the ground. its pretty heavy. no marking except make sure u keep the left and right bearing caps in the right orientation and location
The shims for a dana 60 are between the pumpkin and the bearings so you won't change any of the adjustments unless you remove the pressed on bearings and remove shims... I need to do mine too as need to replace leaky axle seal... was gonna do it last weekend but postponed due to crappy weather. I will take pics when I do it as there is some mistaken info on some posts that say you will mess up the backlash etc by taking it out... I wrenched in a 4x4 specialty shop for a while and did diff swaps on a weekly basis..
afonda, you just want to pull the axle shaft to R&R the seals during a ball joint change right? Slide it out, slide it back in, no worries. Many say it can take some prying to get it out the first time, mine slid right out with no issues.

Would be great to have a little write-up and some pictures. Just did my needle bearings lube and now the left axel seal has a drip, small but it is there. Can I keep going for a while? The axels are not turning and I don’t use the 4x4 in the summer anyway. Thanks didn’t mean to hijack.
