Propotioning Valve...

I am looking for some help in finding a proportioning valve for my 1968 F-100. It has to be a drum/drum valve as I have drum brakes front and back. I put all new bearing and races as well as new kingpins in over the weekend because I had an issue with a burnt up spindle and bearing. Before and after that work I am getting a really bad pull to the right. The tire pressure is correct and I also installed a new master cylinder and rear rubber brake line (axel to frame). I bled the brakes and I still get the hard pull to the right. All bushings have been replaced (radius arm and pivot). I am leaning toward the proportioning valve being the culprit. I appreciate any input. Thanks.

On mine, I have a pretty good pull to the left when I slam on the brakes. Mine is not to severe though so I have no worried much about it. I won't answer any questions for you as I am unsure too but I just got new brakes and brake cylinders on the front.

My 69 F100 used to pull a bit to one side a few years ago when braking hard enough, but I never got around to checking on it and it went away. Last I checked all of that in the fall of last year, shoes were good.

I recently learned that drum brakes not only aren't as efficient as discs, but also may provide uneven braking with possible pull to one side as on our trucks.

Is it a controllable pull or is it leaning toward scary?

P.S. Actually, when thinking about it.. a pull all the time or just braking?

It pulls to the right only when applying the brakes. It pulls hard enough to switch lanes. It just started one day all of a sudden.

Check the condition of the rubber brake hoses in the front. They will fail over time and cause problems.

you may want to check the adjustments on both brakes if you have not done this yet. the left may not be adjusted as much as the right side. which would make the right grab much harder then the other. this is one problem i think the drum fronts. they don't adjust the same which will give you a pull to one side or the other.
if you need a proportioning valve auto parts stores have them for drum to drum brakes if they don't in your area then your local salvage yard will.

The front rubber brake hoses are new. I also have the adjusters on both sides adjusted correctly. But I did recheck them just to be sure. A real stumper.

frankensteined_67.....what auto parts stores in your area carry them? Can you get me a part number and price? Thanks.

77 Bronco i just called the mom and pop store that i go to and they don't have them any more they said they are usually dealer parts and they had got some parts from a bankrupted dealer way back when. Sorry i did not know that. but he did say go to pick and pull and grab one. just clean it when you get it.

Seeing how the job of the proportioning valve is to control braking pressure front to rear, I have a hard time believing a bad one will cause pulling. I'd look into an adjustment issue.
