On the GVWR you posted, that's a new number I had not heard of before...
One question...and this isn't to sound like a smart @$$...did you happen to have your glasses on when you looked at your sticker...a 4 can easily look like a 9...just a thought...not saying you don't have an 8400# GVWR...it just isn't one I had heard of before...that's all...
I glad you said it because I was thinking the same thing...
LOL......it is deffanitly a 4, making 8400GVWR. I wonder what the deal is with that??? I will go out and take a picture of it and post it for you when the wife gets home (I think the camera is in her car).
And Joe......I know how crazy things can get at work. Im in the asphalt business and we are just getting started up for the spring. We will have to get reservations at Pokeagon State Park sometime!
Virginia DMV has my Excursion listed as 6,650 pounds empty. By the time you add the junk I have in it, myself,
one passenger, and a full tank of go juice, I suspect I am easily topping out at a minimum of 7,500 pounds.
That's almost four tons cutting through the little Honda driving idiot that pulls out in front of me.It's actually a
scary thought knowing stupid drivers do stupid things while sipping their coffee and talking on cell phones!
Now you know how commercial truckers feel when some idiot in a honda cuts in front of 80,000 of rollin' coal....

I agree I`ve seen it first hand! how can you possibly jamb on the brakes for an early yellow light ( I was behind her in the next lane and i had more than enough time to make it through!) and not know there is an empty 18 wheel dump behind you!!!! that wasn`t a pretty site. I can`t imagine how much worse it could`ve been if he was loaded. some people are just blind as to what`s around them while they`re driving.
here is a pic of my setup. i'm not sure if the angle of the hitch head and the bars are accurate as this is an older pic, but it is the correct equipment.
I swore my coupler was a top mount, guess pictures don't lie though!
The older style DC with a bottom coupler is much more forgiving on binding issues...the newer HP style cams stick way out there...you should have minimal issues tweaking your setup to avoid binding...plus that bottom ball coupler will make it a breeze.
You are shifting a little too much weight forward but when you go to the scale you can tweak that a bit...just remember that when you make your 'final' measurements to have the Ex and TT loaded as you would for camping...that is the only way to get an accurate on the road setup...Shifting too much weight forward may cause a different handling issue (too little weight on the rear axle)...strive to get that front axle weight as close to what it is unhitched as possible should give you the best handling situation in my experiences...
Thanks for the info on the 8400...Not sure where it comes from actually but I guess Ford has all kinds of things they didn't tell me
