E-brake stumpage

Im slightly confused with this e brake job... i got everything routed and put in but the e- brake i got (dorman) came with these two silver clips that dont seem to go anywhere? i pulled off the other tire and it didnt seem to employ them at all... looking back at the driver side, the cable i got seems slightly longer then the other one... all i can conclude is that they are stops to slide into the springs... but it dosnt seem quite right... anyone got pics or a site or a good explenation???

Are these horseshoe shaped clips? If so, they attach the rearmost brake shoe to the lever that connects to where you hook the e-brake cable inside the drum housing. You wouldn't have had to use them if you didn't disconnect this lever from the brake shoe. If I'm off base here, explain these clips.

Yes they are, but i fear you may be refering to the "jesus" clips used to hold on the pin from the e-brake lever.

Now through my searching for a picture of this part,i think i may have figured it out. am i to understand that the cable enters the back of the brake housing and routes over to the ebrake lever and the pressed sleve should just hook onto the backside of this lever?
if this is so then i think these clips may be used to hold the cable retaining shrouds to th faceplates... both where it enters the brake housing and up at the switching mechanism...

if so i am going to be annoyed because i have a good two or three inches of extra cable and spring? so either they gave me the wrong cable or my assembly is buggered somewhere...

The inner part of the cable, with the spud on it and the coil spring behind it, push through the brake backplate so that they are inside the drum. The outer part of the cable only pushes into the backplate about 1/2in and should be retained by little metal fingers that expand and prevent the cable from being pulled out. The spud on the inner cable clips onto the brake lever with the spring tightly coiled up between the lever and the end of the outer cable coming through the backplate. So the springs are not too long, they need to be compressed to let the spud clip into the lever. There should be no spring clips needed anywhere here.
Once you have both sides done it is just a matter of routing the new cables the same as the old.
Hope this helps.
