Hey, guys. I just got my S'crew and its time for the inevitable mods to begin. I'm looking to do a fair amount of towing (~5000#) and most of my mods will go to aid in towing. Here's my question...
If a chip will help clean up shifts and a shift kit will do the same, do I need both? I'm not looking to go WOT everywhere, just to ease the load on the tranny for towing. Each of these seem to attack the shift problem differently, is one better than the other? Any info is appareciated.
Well, I see according to the specs page that the supercrew has the 4R70W. I have a 4R70W in my 97 Cougar and have both a shift kit (of sorts) and a chip. They work wonderfully together. The main thing is that the chip I have (not some off the shelf boxed chip) is done correctly. It only raises the line pressure during the shift. I believe some of the others and maybe the standalone b&m shift improver raise the line pressure all the time which is NOT good.
I am very happy with the results. :P
