My 77 F-150 has a cluster with a warning light for the alt and oil pressure. I picked up a cluster at a swap meet that had the gauges for the oil and alt and I went to install it this morning and the wire connection that plugs into the back of the cluster did not fit. My 77 cluster is silver in color and the one I picked up at the swap meet was black in color and both have a D6 prefix on the part number.
1. Is the problem that my wire harness does not support gauges for those two functions?
2. Or did Ford change the harness/cluster combo and I purchased a cluster from an older truck?
My electrical connector was smaller/shorter compared to what was required for my planed replacement.
I had same problem when I did my swap. Parts truck was 79 with dummy lites and my 78 cluster had gauges. I ended up reusing my origional wire harness and origional cluster with the gauges.
