Is there a way to ind out which one it is without removing the serp?
while looking for some sort of simple remedy someone told me to douse the pullies in WD and see if it goes away, so i did and it didn't.. now im slightly worried about the wd eating the rubber... should i be?
Another thing i cant seem to figure out isthe proper torque for the lug nuts. the haynes says somewhere between 100 and 145... now is that because anywhere in the range is good or is that a difference between the F150 and the bronco ( as i suppose you know the haynes for our trucks covers both the F150 and the bronco) it also makes reference to different lug nut sizes.
this confused me and i quickly found out the all the lug nuts on my truck are different sizes ID is the same but the outer dia ranges. am i correct in assuming this is due to the previous owner just using random lugs...? where can i get a complete set?
I am about to tackle the replacement of my driverside e-brake cable, i was told it is simple and only a few nuts.. any words of wisdome for me before i take it out for a spin?
Im in Fort McMurray alberta and the only real parts stores i know that i have at my fingertips is cambodian tire and NAPA... the junk yard guy out here is off his rocker. (the interior dome light cover for a single cab-$25, i simply laughed and walked out...
as far as the lug nut torque specs that is just a range so anywhere in there is fine, i usually just pick the middle number and go with that. the squeaking could actually be the belt itself or the belt tensioner which is a common problem. $25 for a dome light cover, what is that guy smoking?
I am west of Stony Plain, and believe it or not, the Napa in Spruce Grove is pretty good for parts. Crappy tire is..... crappy. There is a huge Napa warehouse in Edmonton, so chances are any parts you need are only a day away. There is a local place here in Spruce Grove called Parts Stop that can usually get me whatever parts I need - sometimes it takes a couple of days. So I recommend you see if there is an independent parts place in the Fort and make friends with them. And also I have used Auto Parts in Canada! - OEM and Aftermarket Canada Auto Parts 2 times now for parts when I am not in a hurry - free shipping (if you spend over $75) and Canadian prices. Same parts as I can get locally, but cheaper. The way I do it - I go to Rockauto.com and find the part I need, then I go to autopartsway and search by part number, because I have found that if I search by application, they often don't have it listed. I will also print out the part diagram and number from rockauto.com and take it to my parts guy and they can usually cross reference it when I am looking for something.
Please, NEVER spray WD-40, belt dressing, or any lubricant on belt or pulleys. Time to clean the pulleys and replace the belt with a new Motorcraft or Goodyear Gatorback belt.
thanks to all for the conversation. i was thinking the guy was a few pistons short of a two stroke but he sounded like more of a grease monkey then i so i gave him the benefit of the doubt... now i know. all i have read on this site everyone seems to have high respect for the goodyear gatorback so i think i will endeavour to find one around here.
As for the squeak, i let my truck idle for a few when i went out to work on it ( random hail storm, at +5... gotta love alberta) and then i poped the hood and felt all the pullies. then only one that seemed warm was the idle pully beside the alt. the bolt in the center of it was a dozen times warmer then all the rest... Normal? or should i look into it?
Im slightly confused with this e brake job... i got everything routed and put in but the e-brake i got (dorman) came with these two silver clips that dont seem to go anywhere? i pulled off the other tire and it didnt seem to employ them at all... looking back at the driver side the cable i got seems slightly longer then the other one... all i can conclude is that they are stops to slide into the springs... but it dosnt seem quite right... anyone got pics or a site or a good explenation???
