Guys, What year did Ford start putting serial numbers on engines, and where are they located?
I never knew there were any. My across the street neighbor is building a cruising sand rail type buggy with a 87 5.0 on the the back. Yesterday he had the DMV officer over giving it the going over for registration, and I walked up and he ask me if I knew where it was. The officer was laying beside of the engine looking at the rear drivers side. He gave up, called a number that he had and they found it on the rear of the engine just under the intake.
The DMV officer says that he had seen numbers on 70s Mustangs. I figured he had a gun and was in the bidness to know those things so I didn't argue.
I had never recalled anyone referring to serial numbers on FTE before.
I told him that I thought Chevy had matching serial numbers because you hear about it on Barrett Jackson.
thanks Bill John
It's EZ to tell if the drivers side front inner fender apron on a 1965/73 Mustang has been replaced, because this is where Ford stamped the VIN on these cars since there's no frame.
The number is plainly visible on the top edge of the apron where it meets the fender.
If it ain't there, the car at one time had prolly been hit hard in the front end, as the apron, fender, headlamp assembly and etc have been replaced.
