CEL after towing?!

I was towing a trailer this evening that we use to store and haul most of the stuff for our church, and it seemed like my truck was really underpowered. After being parked for about six hours, I unhitched and got in my truck to come home and noticed that my CEL was lit. My truck seemed to be running a bit rough, too. It went off as soon as I started driving, and seemed to smooth out pretty well. I don't know if the CEL was on while I was driving - it could have gone unnoticed, as it was covered by a picture of my wife.

Essentially, I'm wondering if it's normal for the CEL to come on when towing a significant load. I don't know how much it weighs, but it's a dual-axle trailer full of chairs (a couple hundred), staging, carpet, and all sorts of things. It squats my one-ton a little bit. It will pretty much bottom out a half ton pickup, so I usually tow it, but I had to tow it a couple miles instead of across the street. My concern is mostly because it's been acting funny lately anyway. It lacks power sometimes, and even cut off a couple times last week.

Sorry for the long post, but I'm trying to give all the info you might need. Thanks to all in advance for your opinions!

Tripping a CEL while towing isn't normal, do you have a scanner to see what codes are tripped? When do you notice the loss of power? Last oil/fuel filter change?

I don't own one, but my cousin does, and I hope to be able to go see him Monday. Oil and filter are due fairly soon, but I change them regularly. I change my fuel filter more than I do my oil, because I run veggie oil. I'm going to go ahead and change the filter, but would that explain the CEL? I don't have a gauge, but it felt as if my egt's might have been borderline when I was pulling or something. Given my setup, would I be in danger of running it too hot? I keep my chip in 2nd power setting because the third makes her flop... Thanks

scan showed a P1280... checked all the connections on my ICP, especially where I did the 10k. Ironically enough, after checking the connections, I started the truck and tried to drive off, and it died before I made it out of the driveway.

CEL has still been coming on sometimes, and transmission hits really hard on occasion. Also, every now and then as I'm going down the road I'll get a little burst of power (significant, but short) but it will revert immediately, which (strangely) happens when it seems to be running "fine", rather than when the CEL is on and I have no power.

My ICP is only a year old; could it be bad already?
