I used the test light method, as i dont have a volt meter nor a engine light.
I got 3 light blinks,
code 136, 334, 123.
If i remember the code 334 is the egr open to the max, how do i correct it?
As far as the other codes, 136, left HEGO is lean, and code, 123, is TPS above maximum.
I replaced the TPS a few weeks ago that is new. When i first join i wrote basically what the truck is doing/ acting like, I idles hi/lo hi/lo sometimes, the will "sometimes" die when you put it in park, or idle hi/lo then smooth out. And going down the inter state she will buck a little, I step on the go peddle it down sifts and it smooths out. When the RPM's go down its starts to buck again, not bad, just very irritating on a long drive.
These issues do not happen all the time, Its like a woman, has attitude swings, for the last week or she the truck has been great, now today shes on the rag again... kinda stinks like gas/exhaust when idling.
Could be vacuum leak. These things are noted to give weird codes with a vacuum leak and the plenum gasket is famous for leaking on older higher mileage engines. That would also cause idle problems and low rpm problems.
Is this on a 1987 F-series Truck?
If so you better go back and try reading the codes again as those are not good ones for a 1987 Truck.
You only have two numbers in the code not three.
i've found that alot of time the egr code is not the egr valve itself but a vac leak somewhere. Check the reservior for rusting out on the bottom, that is where I found my leak at. The HEGO lean code is related to the egr as well. I had both these codes on my 95 f150 and fixing the rusted out vac res solved both issues.
Hey guys, as far as vac leaks, all line are good, and the reservoir is good. The only think i haven't looked at is the plenum I assume that where all the vac lines go on the top of the motor? What the best way to check that?
Subford, With research i have done and with what you said with 2 diget codes, i ran them again. Same thing. same codes.
A bank of 3 blinks, about 30 seconds or so went by went by, then 136, 123, 334.
I have read codes many times in my semi so im ok with counting, but i muss me missing something if 87 only had 2 didgets.
Has somebody replaced the Computer with the wrong one?
That could cause problems and codes.
I would like to see the numbers off that computer.
From TSB 92-24-03:
Overview Of Three Digit EEC IV Self-Test Codes
Ford went from two digit to three digit EEC IV Self-Test codes in 1991 to service the increasing number of service codes required to support various government On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) regulations. The phase-in from two digit to three digit codes started in the 1991 model year and is largely complete except for some medium/heavy trucks that will retain two digit codes through the 1994 model year.
If I'm not mistaken, the 3 blinks you get at the very beginning are the engine code. Three flashes indicate a six cylinder engine if those three flashes are indeed the engine code. A V8 should give four flashes for the engine code. Can you see what numbers are on the computer?

Thanks for posting that information! I don't think I knew the actual change-over date.
Thanks guys, as soon as it stops raining ill run out and check the numbers on the computer. This hole thing is bringing more and more curiosity out of me..
The fuel presser regulator is where exactly? Is it down by the bottom of the firewall or up by the more more?
if ya have one laying around I could use it lol, I assume it looks somewhat like a fuel filter? Do the regulators just go out like that? I spose after 20 ought years anything can go out.

No but they were bad in 1993 and that was what the recall was about that year as it was taking out the check valves some how in the FDM.
If you pull the vacuum line off the nipple and you find fuel the FPR is bad.
