so i need to drop my pan and chenge the fluid in my tranny and im told that it might not take regular tranny fluid. So what kind of tranny fluid will it take? I dont know if it is a c4 or a c6 but it is bolted to a 400 v8.
As far as I know if it`s a 400 engine it should be a C6.
I can`t help with the recommended transmission fluid, if no one else chimes in soon check in the Clutch,Transmission, Differential, Axle and Transfer Case forum: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum69/
If its never been rebuilt recently, then you have to put Type "F" transmission fluid in. DO NOT use Dextron oil or it will shift and operate like crap. If it has been rebuilt in the last few years then the seals will be updated to accept the Dextron oil. Stay on the safe side and use Type "F" fluid. Also if you are dropping the pan to change oil, open the torque converter access cover and turn the engine over till you see the drain plug on the convertor and drain it too.
That's a good question Sheldon, I'm not sure if its avaliable in a synthetic oil. There is less and less places stocking the oil now, but I think Canadian Tire still carries it in stock. If your doing a full oil change including torque converter, it will hold around 10-12 litres I think.
