Front end is grinding at low speeds and humming at high speeds. I have changed both driver and passenger hub/bearing assemblies, Timkin bearings... Mechanic said possible front diff. issues, Could the grinding /humming be symptoms of differential problems?? $1,000 later and driving me nuts.
my brother was haveing a simular problem with his excursion, he told me it was some niddle bearings. Acording to him it is a common problem I will ask him to be more specifik the next time I call him.
Changed the front diff fluid today, no metal shavings or wear inside pinion set, test drove and the noise/vibe is still there. As for the needle bearings, i believe they are inside of the hub/bearing assembly, which I replaced both sides. Please correct if I am wrong or mistaken. Thanks for the replies..
Does it do it in 4wd? Could be an issue with the auto hubs not fully engaging due to a vacuum leak. I had to replace my ESOF relay and the problem was solved.

You can take them out and go on a test drive and see if the sound disappears.
SO I talked to my brother he told me that and he said his niddle baerons inside the hub assembly went out, becouse they went out it worped his axle shaft. witch in turn destroyed his career. His was only makeing a high pich squel from time to time. Other than that there was no warning sighns of a problem. Hopefully you dont have the same problem. did you inspect your axle shaft when you had the hub taken apart?
I believe he meant to say carrier.. Anyway, I inspected the stub shafts when I had the hubs off and no visible wear. As for the vacuum seal / 4x4 thing, I don't have ESOF, so there is no vacuum seal I believe.. Mine are manual hubs. BUT.. When I lock the hubs and drive around in 2wd, the noise is still there.
Yes that is what I meant but usually it's an issue of the ESOF hubs not fully engaging/disgaging. You can still do the same with the manual hubs and see if they are the issue.
