I have never been able to find definitive information on this, of all the hundreds of highboys i've ever seen whether it be in person or in photos i've only ever seen the t-case strut on highboys equipped with a C-6, never the NP-435, was the strut only available on autos and not manuals? was it standard on autos or an option? the struts are bolted to the t-case and riveted to the crossmember indicating a factory install, are there any NP-435 highboys out there with a factory t-case strut?
i've heard that they were a dealer install on the stick trucks to prevent the t-case from flexing and causing clutch chatter or something to that extent.

I've never seen them on manuals though, only autos.
Yes, that is correct. Ford did not offer the strut on manual transmission trucks. But I can tell you, it does help in making a much smoother take off if you add one. The oem transfer case mounts tend to degrade over time making a strut that much more necessary.

That's odd, do you know why only autos got the strut? it would seem to me the manuals would need them before the autos do.
I have a 77 Highboy with a NP-435 that has the strut and it looks like it came from the factory that way. The mount is riveted to the crossmember and I dont think it was a dealer install.
So apparently they came on manual highboys too, maybe it was part of a towing package???, i know Under heavy loading (such as towing conditions), the t-cases without a strut tend to jerk fore-and-aft.

i do not have a towing package eather
but i wouldent go with out it
my truck was orginally an auto long ago it was converted to a four speed. It never had the strut when i bought the truck and i kept loosing drive shafts partly being 16 and partly i blame on not having that. The crossmember was there and the tcase had the bracket for it. My dad, when he used to work in the auto shop at us airways< had access to the shop manuals and it said that only autos came equipped with it. My truck now has it but have yet to drive it couple more months and the resto should be close enough to drive. I hope that helps the tcase stya in place, espcially since it has 42s now.

I too thought the t-case strut was only on automatic highboys, i've never seen one on a manual highboy but if a guy says he has a factory installed t-case strut on a manual highboy then it certainly throws a monkey wrench into that theory.
I know when my truck was a manual trans it didn't have one or need one no matter how hard I'd wheel it. but when i changed to a C6 i had the worst chatter/vibration, I had ever experienced. took a long time to locate the brackets and had to fab the brace bar. worked great! RW P.S. did I mention my highboy was for sale? hope i don't get bitched at for that!
One would think a manual would require the t-case strut before an automatic would, with the constant engaging/disengaging of the clutch and what not, i can't find any info online regarding this matter but i assume ford had a valid reason for putting the strut on some highboys and not others.
I've made several struts and mounts for manual equipped trucks. I makes all the difference when you tow heavy loads - especially when taking off in 1st gear. I have never seen a oem strut on a manual truck from the factory. They did not exist. Ford must have thought they could save a buck or two by leaving them out.

I haven't either, not once, ever. To my knowledge they were solely an automatic specific item, though a few guys claim to have a factory installed t-case strut on their manual highboys.
