When I mean baby it, I just mean it is more my personal use vehicle than business. I tow with it, but not religiously the 3-4 days/week I mentioned. My husband's does all of the work. Some weeks I tow with my truck 4 or 5 days, but there are weeks I do not tow at all with it. During Spring - Fall that is. I only towed with it once this year in January because I had to pull an equipment trailer with skid steer. My truck pulls the heavier weight a little better than my husband's truck. If I really avg. out how much it tows during the busy seasons, it would probably be about twice/week, typically only 6000lbs.
Do you get it up pretty good in rpms, do a little bit of a hard launch(nothing crazy mind you like some people post on here), or get it up a little bit on the interstate? Sometimes working it unloaded(especially if it is also a personal vehicle) is needed to clean out the parts, particular with regard to the turbo vanes. The towing that your doing might actually be helping to stave off the carbon buildup, but then again it might not be.
If you do all your own maintance work and willing to go this route(if you haven't already) might want to consider going with synthetic engine oil in there. Oil analysis from a few people on here(as well as myself) have shown improvements over the regular "stuff", that will more then likely help you with engine longevity.
I see what your saying now about not being good to baby too much due to build up. Don't worry, I don't baby it that much, ha! I clean it out regularly. Especially when I have someone in front of me that aggravates me! Not that I'm a tailgater, but I'm sure ya know how it is with other drivers.
As for synthetic oil, we haven't been using it, but have considered it. Thanks for your tips, I appreciate it!

Since you opened the door with that and I can't keep my "mouth" shut. I just love it when someone whips out in front of me as fast as they can only do to 30 in a 55. Unfortunately for them, my exhaust exits on the right and when you pass someone, it's in perfect line(espcially if they are in a little car) with their windows and I'm sure they are regretting going that slow when they got in front of me.
If they had just let me go ahead of them, I would have long since gotten out of their line of sight so they wouldn't have had to worry about trying to see around my "hips" as long as they were going to travel the same speed.
Yeah, my 07 burns a lot cleaner. I had an 02 7.3, chipped with duals, and that would blow black smoke when I hammered it. I had someone taligating me in a convertible, and yeah well I had some fun with that!
I loved that truck and owned it with no loan! I have made mistakes since then and even though I have equity in this truck not nearly as much as in the previous ones I have owned. I bought an 05 new for 43K and had an $ 8500.00 loan on it, but had some trouble with it and traded it in. It has been all down hill since then. Guess I have grown up, but a little too late. Still gowing back to a gas engine 1/2 ton from what I have is such a horrible thought!
just for fun I checked on a dodge 1500 that was sitting for sale. was an 06 but this was a year ago. It advertized alot of new parts to include a new rear axle and transmition I thought wow this is weird for this new of a truck, then I seen it had air bags for over load springs. The sighned said it had no troble towing a fith wheel trailer. It was just funny becouse judgeing from the parts listed it did in fact have trouble towing. I just thought i would share that with you all.
