This about the M500's and 600's. I have an M500 that is a 67 but the body style of a 66 1/2ton. I have been to a few auctions and noticed that there have been a few others the same as mine. Yesterday I was at an auction and they had a M600 and they said it was a 68 and that is what it said on the registration, the new owner was kind enough to show me the registration. Anyways I am still searching the internet to find an answer, maybe someone here knows.
I had a 69 F100 that the previous owner registered as a 67 and I know for a fact it was a 69. I don`t think that SGI bothers to check older vehicles out for the proper year, just goes by the previous registrations. No matter whether they`re correct or not......
In 67 all Ford trucks did change over from the 66 styling so it`s probably an SGI or previous owner error. Mercury truck info is hard to come by, even on the net.
Seems Mercury trucks had some different codes and I think those records are history. So far I`ve never been able to find out much info on them though I haven`t tried too hard to do so.

Beginning in 1966, the Mercury trucks use the same VIN system as the Ford's do.
1965 was the last year for the old system.
1965 M100 sample VIN: 4991014L-195001A
4 = V8 / 99 = Styleside Pickup / 10 = M100 / 14 = 114.8" Wheelbase / L = Left Hand Drive / 195001 = 1st unit built at Oakville / A = Gross Vehicle Weight Range: From 3.6M to 5.6M
1965 F100 sample VIN: F10DR639000
F10 = F100 2WD / D = 352 2V / R = San Jose Assembly Plant / 639000 = Assembled January 1965.
I can decode 1965 Mercury VIN's, all the other info on the plate, but nothing previous.
Ford trucks didn't go to the 17 digit VIN's until 1981.
The best answer I can come up with Colin is they used older cabs. Extra cabs from 66 running down their inventory. Grain trucks didnt really have to be fashionable.

What's the VIN of this supposed 1967 Mercury truck?
I'd be willing to bet it's a 1966, as I cannot see Ford using a 1961/66 body style then calling it a 1967...unless it has RHD and was originally assembled for the Australian/New Zealand or South African market.
my old 52 was registered as a 53 and i cant remember who decoded the vin for me but my vin number on it was also a 53 vin number but it was the 52 body style

I wonder if it was the correct Vin tag for your truck and if so then was the VIN was correctly decoded?
Did you sell this truck to a local or did it end up leaving town?
