More dreaded E4OD questions
The basic problem is an extremely hard shift from 1-2. I'm talking so hard that something is gonna break. 2-3 and 3-od seem ok. Also when I'm hamer down the tranny shifts like it should. The other thing is that it almost seems that the tranny is taking away alot of power, and with a 302 in Bronco I need all I can get. I changed the fluid and it looked good, and did NOT smell burnt. Also there wasn't much crude in the pan. Just some of that typical metal powder built up on the magnet. Everything elss looked good. I have had the truck for a year so I know it had at least 10,000 miles on the fluid. When I changed the tranny fluid I added some of the Lucas tranny fix thinking that I had a stick valve. At first it made no differance, but after about 50 miles it really seemed to help. Then I parked the truck for a little over a week, and when I went back to driving it it was right back to the same stuff.
After searching thru the E4OD posts on here about the closest I found was a post about the clutches in the converter going bad and the tranny uping the line pressure to make up for it.
The big differance between my problem and the one mentioned is that mine really only seems to be 1-2. The other guy had hard shifts in all gears.
Any thoughts or comments?
If I gotta do some major wrenching on this I want to get it done ASAP since the snow is all ready starting to fly. Luckly it has not started sticking.....yet
