Manual STUCK in second
Thanks for all the help.
There may be a number of versions of the Indy shifter out there because mine has only one spring and that is in the middle of the u-shaped bracket and pushes the shifter over to 2/3 linkage bar when the shifter is in nuetral.
The majority of the problem was wear and slop in the slots on the transmission arm. The rectanglar slots were worn on both so there was 15+ degrees of play on each. Thus alignment at neutral was a one time deal. I flipped and rotated the plates to a new slot which put the shift rod connector holes in a less than ideal, but usable, position.
Will order new ones. May order the longer rod since it is bent to have a big bow in it.
Now when in reverse the pin in the main shifter springs behind the 2/3 lever. With previous slop any shifter movement would push the 2/3 lever out of neutral alignment. Maybe with tighter fit this misalignment won't happen since it feels like you cannot push one shifter when the other is in gear.
?? Is the pin supposed to go behind the 2/3 lever since reverse is way back?
? Or should I weld a tang to the lever to hold the pin even with the flat face of the shift levers.
Thanks again,
Richard
