I just got a new f150 xl with a tow pakage. I have the 4.6 engine 2valve, it says it will tow 5200lb and i have a rv thats is 4400lb do you think i will have any problems towing it.
How far, how often, and what kind of terrain do you tow in? How much does the rv weigh loaded with all your gear? How much weight will be in the truck? I would think you will be ok depending on the weight of your gear and occupants, just keep in mind the payload capacity of your truck in addition to the weight of the trailer. Tongue weight of your trailer plays into payload capacity also since it is weight on your truck. I have always felt these trucks capability's are under rated but they have to be to keep everyone safe and the attorneys happy.
I have been driving an 06 supercrew with a 4.6 and it did the job. My travel trailer is 4500 empty and all loaded close to 6000. The only thing is you have no extra power. If you hit a hill at 50KMh you are going to pick up any speed on the way up. if you are going 110KMh and you want to pass, you need a running start.
I couldn't get a cruising speed above 110KMh without having the engine run run below 3000RPM.
That being said never had a problem but my next truck is a 5.4 and it should be here in June.
I should also mention that fuel economy is terrible when towing.
