I can see a small tranny leak that looks to be coming from the front seal. It is a small leak as I haven't needed to add any fluid yet. Yes, I know that seems strange. Anyway, other than the tranny shifting early, it seems to be working fine.
I have been hauling a lot of rock lately. Loads in the 1.3 to 1.6 ton range. My question is: Is this an indicator the tranny is about to blow the front seal? I do not want to have 1.5 tons of rock in the back when it blows! That would be a bad situation to be sure.
The front seal has been known to leak when hot. It may go away when it cools off. Eventually it will leak all the time.
Look in the engine valley for fluid puddles. Any leaks that occur in the valley will leak down the back of the block looking like a trans leak.
It started with a tiny leak one time when I let the tranny get up to 250°F. Then it would start leaking at 240°F...
Eventually it was pouring out whenever it got above 220°F and then I replaced the seal.
The job isn't too bad. One trick I'd point out is to lower the rear of the transmission as far as you can without breaking the fan shroud with the fan to reach the upper two bell housing bolts. Far easier to reach than trying from above.
