What was Ford's resolution for the door crack issue?
My 97 has them about 1/4 inch on both doors.
Was it a recall, or a warranty issue?
I'm not the original owner, I bought it used. Do I have any hope of getting Ford to fix it or am I on my own?
I am going to get a couple of estimates on fixing some rust on the bottom of the 3rd door and getting my cap clear coat fixed, so if I'm stuck, I'll get a quote for that too.....
No they will not fix it, it could have been covered under warranty but thee is no recall. The only true fix I know of is welding a thicker piece of metal in the door to stiffen the flex. If that is not done it will just happen again.
my opinion find you a used door at a salvage yard that is an 01 or up if they will interchange and have it painted. I have probably sunk close to a $1000 into fixing my F'in door 3 or 4 times and it still craked. So for now i put a piece of home made trim up next to it to hide it untill it cracks past it. then i will prolly just get a new door.
