<!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_start --><!-- END TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_start -->I have an 05 f250 which the master was just swapped out to add the factory trailer brake setup to the truck. Since the swap the brakes work fine then decided to start dragging hard. If you crack the lines going to the master cylinder they loosen up and go back to normal after a couple minutes the build pressure in the line and start dragging. Is there just air in lines or ??? Any help would be much appreciated
I would start at the caliper pins, then do a good bleeding. I don't know much about boosters and if you have a diesel I know even less, but the booster should put pressure against the piston and there should be a spring inside to counter this pressure somewhat. So when you over come the spring's tension, the booster does most of the work of moving the piston.
As ReAX mentioned, start with the caliper slide pins. These tend to seize up and don't release as rapidly as they should. Check them and clean and lube as needed. Use the high temp PTFE teflon high temp grease here.
I don't know much about the diesel set-up either if thats what you have.
I had this prob on my 99 f250sd and after replacing 2 sets of calipers and rotors, I finally replaced the master cylinder and guess what... fixed.
If you can release the brakes by loosening the lines, it would stand to reason the only thing making the pressure build would be the master cylinder. When the pressure builds it causes the brakes to heat-up, making the problem even worse. A few times I saw my rotors turn bright red, trashing out the rotors and calipers.
Found the problem...Removed the MC and the push rod has a grooved o ring which wasn't seated right and was causing the rod not to fully retract. Thanks for everyones help.
