53 f100 engine swap

Hi there

I am in the process of rebuilding a ford 53 for my wife.
I sold the old 351w and c4 that was in the truck and are ready to buy a new driveline.
Im looking for a modern engine since I like the features that an fuel injected ecu fitted engine provides in terms of fuel economy, efficency and long term durability. I have recently bought a complete range rover sport 2008 interior and will try and shoe horn this into the old truck, like it or not. She want´s the look of a bad to the bones hotrod with all the modern stuff that women needs. A/C powerwindows, electric seats , cruisecontrol etc. Basicly a modern car inside with oldschool looks.

Which powerplant would you guys prefer to do a swap.
What im looking for in terms of power is around 300 hp and a driveline that will go well with highway cruising.
Im thinking maybe 5.0 or 4.6 dohc myself but would apreciate inputs.

Thanks Jacob

Jacob, my personal preference would be a 5.0 HO SEFI engine. Something from 86 through 94 or so. You can get them pretty reasonably right now, but I think the window of opportunity will be gone in a few years.

I'd combine it with an AOD and use a 9" with a 3.25. Good economy, outstanding torque, in a package that has all the details worked out.

If you wanted to cherry-pick heads, I would choose the much maligned E6SE or E6TE heads found on the 86 HO Mustang and 86 truck, or find an engine with the F7TE/GT40p heads. I would NOT use the E7TE heads no matter what the knuckleheads say.

My 86 Mustang can get more than 25 MPG and it's got the E6SE heads. Tons of torque.

What is wrong with E7TE heads? What are the "knuckelheads" saying?

I am not running them now, but I have a set sitting on my shelf with the thermactor humps smoothed out. I was hanging on to them for some reason, and am now curious as to why you believe they are apparently useless?
No offense...just wondering what info you have.

Thanks!

If this is what you are looking for, put a small, late model diesel in it. I am running an older Mercedes diesel and love it.

In 1987, Ford was competing with Chevy in the ponycar market; IROC Z vs. Mustang GT. To bump the peak power of the Mustang 5.0 they increased the size of the throttle body from 58mm to 60mm and they installed the E7TE truck heads because of the larger valve size. They then rated the engine at 225 HP vs. the 200 HP of the 86 HO engine.

Mustang fans got the impression that the E7TE head was some sort of hotrod head because of the 25 extra horsepower that Ford claimed. The E7 head is very run-of-the-mill.

The E7TE head is a truck head with open chambers. There are plenty of other heads that are better; C6OE, C9AE/D0OE 351 heads, D5AE 351 heads, and the F7TE heads. The E6SE and E6TE heads are high-swirl fast burn heads. The E7TE head is a truck head with open chambers.

Just my opinion, but if someone tried to give me E7TE heads, I'd give them back.
