rough cold starts

So in the past couple of weeks i've noticed in the mornings when i go out and start my truck if its been overnight it starts up and acts like its gonna die and then idles up. but this morning it did actually die. so i started it again and it was running like super rough till i revved it up. im thinking its the fuel filter. It's bout the most likely thing since the truck has almost 300,000 miles on it but the motor and tranny 74,xxx. but the fuel filter probably hasnt been changed in a long time. so whats your thoughts to what the problem is???? thanks for any ideas.

READ the plugs when you pull 'em. That will tell you if you have a situation in a certain area. (Oil/carbon fouled, etc.)

it shouldnt be carbon fouled because every other fillup me and the previous owner would put in a fuel additive. And oil the motor uses absolutely !!ZERO!! oil. so i dont think its oil fouling. it maybe i need new plug wires. they probably need changing too.

faulty IAC may cause these issues too... try cleaning it out and seeing what happens, but still a good idea to change the fuel filter, I personally use Z-max additive in my truck every six thousand miles or so and have had good results with it, about forty bucks and comes with fuel and oil additive, good luck

dito on fkaster01.

I went thru this this winter, IAC was the problem. They get gunked up and stick. Try cleaning it. I ended up replacing mine (not cheap).
