I have had my X for a little over two weeks. Recently, while hitting a lot of stop and go traffic when running into stoplights, I have noticed a clunking sound which appears to be coming from the rear of the truck. I only get the clunking sound when the truck comes to a complete stop. I then get the sound when I take off. As long as the vehicle is slightly moving, no clunking sound. I do not get the sound when shifting from drive-park-reverse, so would this eliminate the spline needing to be greased?
I don't know if any of this info is helpful, but once the brakes get heated up, they start to squeak. Again, this only happend after a couple miles of city driving. I do have a couple of weeks left on the 30 day/1000 mile warranty, however the dealer will not pay for the diagnostic check unless it turns out to be a covered item. Luckily, the service manager told me to take it out, get the brakes hot, and when I get the clunk, return to the dealer and have a mechanic ride with to hear the sound, thus reducing the time I would be billed for.
