Question OH what joy. NEW PROBLEMS.

Okay had everything working fine. Got up this mourning and truck wants to shimmy while in park. Try and take off and the motor hesitates. Took it back to my good friends shop. Put it on the computer. Dont know what kind but the one he has runs diagnostic and fuel comsuption and all the bells and whistles. Doesnt show any thing bad or any codes. Runs perfect as soon as i get it up there. Ran fine aterwards untill i got almost home and started doing it again for a little and quit. Any suggestions. Tk has new plugs, new fuel filter. Best friend thinks its got some bad gas in it. Said somthing about having the fuel rail purged or cleaned. Didnt get to stick around and ask cause he had to run off for parts. Has anybody done this or am i looking at this problem too deep.

Sounds like it only happens when it is around your house.... so you might want to consider moving!

You might try some seafoam through the gas or even in the intake to see if it has some carbon gumming things up. Putting it in the gas will clean out the injectors some too. That would be my first step.

Okay it got worse today.Went to take off and truck started missing bad. Once you got up to 40 and got on a incline truck didnt want to go at all. When you give it more gas it would start to shake. So i took it by the shop it showed 160 misfires on #7 cyclinder and a couple on #8. He told me to change number 7 and 8 would probably quit. Changed it and ran perfect. Parked it for about a hour. Cranked the truck and backed up to go to the store and its missing when idling. Once you get up to speed its fine. Any suggestions. Or think i need to change #8 cyclinder too. Also can someone tell me the cyclinder order. The guy told me driver side is 5 thur 8 and the passenger side is 1 through 4.

You should go ahead and replace all of the plugs using Motorcraft of course. Good luck!

Thanks KingRanch,
I took it back by shop and now its only showing number 8 coil bad. So i guess i will change it also. I am waiting on tk too cool down and going to change number 8 coil and replace 7 & 8 spark plugs. I just put brand new motorcraft plugs in a week ago on all cyclinders.

Okay put new coils on number 7 and 8 cyclinder and tk still doing it. Now its not showing nothing on the computer. Now they want to put tk on some kind of machine that shows fuel pressure and such. Any suggestions. This tk is about to break me. Really starting to regret buying this tk.

Since the plugs, bad COPs, and fuel filter have all been changed, the next order of business in the troubleshooting process is to check the fuel delivery system. The fuel pressure is the first thing to do in that process. Good luck!

Okay just got it back from the shop. What a pickle i am in. fuel pressure checked okay and everything. They pulled the #5 and # 8 Cyclinder plugs had water in them. They asked me if i had washed the motor down. Well come to find out my wife ( gotta love her) had washed my tk while i was at work and heard me mention that i needed to wash the grim off the motor. She hosed the motor down but its been about a week ago. The shop says thats where i am getting the rough running from. They cleaned them and i went about half a mile and its missing again. So my question is. What can i do to clear the moisture and water that is left in the cyclinders out and what can you use to wash the grim off the engine with. I would rather try to do this myself cause the shop wants alot of money to do it for me. Also what is the recommend plug gap for this tk. I want to make sure that is right also. 2002 Ford F-150 4.6liter. Windsor SOHC.
Thanks everyone for the great information so far. This site is the best.

Okay took all coils off and blew out cyclinders. 3 of the plugs had water around the top after i removed them. Took carb cleaner and sprayed in each cyclinder. Waited a little and blew air in all cyclinders put new plugs in. Put dieelectric grease on all the boots after i cleaned them with a rag. Tk still missing really bad. Took it back to shop still showing misfire code. Tomorrow i am going to take a ohms meter and check all coils on secoundary and primary now i know what resistance they are suppose to show and go from there. Im really starting to lean towards bad gas or bad injectors.

Chances are that the coils on the cylinders that had water in them are probably junk. I would replace all the plugs and put 8 new coils on. I have the Global Automotive coils from Ebay on my truck now and I like them, they are far cheaper than any other coils you will find. I got all mine shipped to my house for I beileve $90.

Thanks for the link Bobby82490.
I think thats exactly what i am going to do. I took a ohms meter and checked them and had two coils dead and the other ones are not putting out exactly what they are suppose to. Tk is back to running excellent with a slight miss every once in awhile. Before i do or spend any more money. I am going to order a set of coils.

Hey guys, let me know how you make out with this problem please. I have a 1998 4.6 with the same problem. i replaced one bad coil and i still have the missfire. I am leaning towards a fuel problem. I paid $65 for one coil but Iam willing to spend $90 more if it will fix my problem. How do I check the coils individually?

"Hey guy". I had same problem at 4.6 99. but didn't run to buy new coil pack. I first checked internet and figure out that coil pack sit can be rusty. I wire brush it, WD-40 and at end cover with dielectric grease (yes DIELECTRIC). Truck run like a new.
