Okay, my truck is mass aired, with 4.10 gears all the way around in my 4x4 92 F-150... I got the gears just wondering if the cam would be worth putting in over my HO camshaft that is already advanced 4*....? I am running 1.7 crane roller rockers that came stock on the cobra GT40's and with those rockers I would be pushing the .529 on the intake and exhaust valve lift.... I would definitely have to upgrade the valve springs, so in order for me to go through all the labor of putting this cam in, would it be beneficial at all from a performance standpoint. Truck is basically just a toy anyways to me....
Well, what kinda of toy is your truck. Are you speed racer or are you billy bob. Does it mostly play around on the street, or do you play in the dirt. You need to be a lil more specific on your uses/intended uses of you rig. What size tires are you running? do you got a manual or auto tranny? This will help determine if your need more torque and/or HP and where your powerband should be.
Basically it's a play toy that I go fishing in or beating the streets up with... I'm running 33-12x50 mud tires, E4OD tranny with B&M Street strip shift kit.... I could use a little more low end and the 302HO camshaft even at 4* advanced isn't enough for me..... I know I would be better off with a 351W, but the 302 is going to have to do for me ;-)
Well, you have a mustang engine in your truck. So yes there are better cams out there. Your intake is fine, you could use a 1" plenum spacer to lengthen your runners and gain some low-end torque. I think that your heads+cam combo are really whats hurting your grunt.
The heads have too large of intake ports to get the air moving fast while in the low rpms, i believe the gt40 are sitting around 170-172cc intake ports. Stocks are only at 125, some good ported stockers would put you around 135-140. I'm guessing those are the GT40P heads and that you have the shorty headers as well. There's more low-end torque to be gained in some LT headers. What exhaust set-up do you have?
Some properly ported E7TE's and a cam with dur@.050<220, 112-114 LSA, 106-108 ICL, and lift between .480~.540 should give you a decent gain in low-end grunt. Some LT headers with a single 3" exhaust will definitely tack-on some more.
I am using some GT40 iron heads off of a 94 Cobra mustang and yes I'm using some shortie ceramic coated headers... I wanted to go to some long tube headers, but I figured I would have problems with getting them under the truck without them hitting something underneath... I do have a 1' plenum spacer also.... I bet another cam would wake the motor up way more than the HO.....

really, I don't see or hear about the older GT40s too often. That's kinda good because you have the ability to throw some LTs on there. But it's bad because the older GTs had a larger intake valve, which makes your low-end suffer even more.
With some careful selecting of a cam(maybe custom grind) you could squeeze some more low-end grunt outta her. Try talking with some cam companies like comp. Or maybe give Jay Allen at camshaft innovations a call for a custom grind. I hear he's hands down the best when it comes to cams.
IMO, it's not worth it with your current set-up. You have go-fast bolt-ons for a lighter weight vehicle; a cam can only make up for so much. The intake is a fine choice though.
someone else should be popping in soon with some other opinions to give you some more options.
