What is this?

This line cracked on me because it was so corroded, I believe it was connected to the gas tank vents? What is the importance of hooking this back up or replacing it? It goes under the cab towards the motor, what might its purpose be

Comes all the way back to the tanks? Fuel return line, maybe?

It sounds like it goes up to the vapor canister on the front under the hood on the pass side.

What is the vapor canister? Is it relevant?

That'd be my guess too. Curious to find out what it is for sure.

The vapor canister collects the gas fumes that come out when the temperature rises. Previously it just vented into the air and that was an environmental concern so they did something about it. I will also swear that I loose about 1L of gas per day when it's hot since mine is non functional.

Oh, so I should just hook it back up. Can I just use some gas rubber hose to replace it right?

That is the vent line to the charcoal canister. It is mounted directly below the battery. The charcoal canister collects the vapour fumes that is released from the tank by expansion as the tank warms up. A line is connected from the canister to the throttle body with a solenoid. The captured vapours are held in the canister until the computer opens the solenoid during part throttle and the vacuum of the intake pulls the vapours into the engine where it can be burnt off.
If you leave the vent on top of the tank open, you will have raw gas vapours released to the atmosphere, where it could pose a danger of catching fire. It's especially bad if the truck is parked in an enclosed area.
If you capped off the gas tank vent, it could cause the tank to form a vacuum as the gas is drawn out and starve the engine of gas.
The charcoal canister is an emissions control device. It needs to be connected properly.

Yes, you should rehook it. And fuel line would work perfect for it..just match the diameter...no smaller.

I always wondered what that pack was under the battery, that makes sense. I highly doubt mine even works, it looks pretty beat up, and I think i remember removing it and it not having any kind of solenoid hooked up to it. I will have to further investigate this matter tomorrow now.
