A while ago, I ordered an equifax free credit report from the government site.
Some time later I got a report from CSC Credit Services that is somehow related to equifax. Report seemed accurate, but there was no credit score included.
Rather than go through the 90 minute wait to speak to an actual person, I thought I'd ask here if that was normal.
I'd like to know what the stupid number is, but I don't want to sign up for any of their gimmicks.
Free credit reports don't always include the score, you have to pay for that info. You can pay a one-time fee to find out what it is at this moment, or subscribe to one of the services that will allow you to check it whenever you want. Keep in mind each company rates you a little differently, so the score you obtain from a report may not be what a lender/retailer has.
My girlfriend went on freecreditreport.com and she had to enter a credit card number right off the bat to get her actual score. She was able to somehow cancell the transaction on the site to not be charged for it. I dont remember exactly what she had to do, but i know that she wasn't charged for it.
The credit score you want is called FICO, and can be had from a bank for no charge. Just ask for pre-approval on a loan. The credit score sold by the credit companies is NOT a FICO. The FICO comes only from fico and banks.
I paid for a score from one credit reporting company, it was worthless as it didn't reflect my FICO and FICO is used by the banks.
It's not a problem to ask a bank for pre-approval, just keep the number of places you ask to a low number. If you ask a bunch of different banks/stores... for credit, it'll drop your score a little bit.
Mine score went up about 10~15 points in 1 year, I was told that if I had a third credit card it would have gone up a bunch more. I'm going to get the third one soon so that I can get past the initial drop in credit, then rise in credit that happens when you get a new CC.
the bank is the easy and cheap way to get your score.

She did not go to the federal site that provides the free credit reports required by federal law, she went to a commercial site known for it stupid and annoying TV commercials.
Credit reports do NOT include a FICO score. Those are available only as a service of Fair, Isaacs, & Co. Other credit agencies provide a "score", but they are NOT FICO scores.
I've always gotten mine from the agencies directly (Experian, TransUnion, Equifax) rather than thru the free site. Just a preference of mine. When I got laid off, I was actually able to request them directly from the companies free of charge because I'd be seeking work in the next 60 days or something like that.
Experian burned me though the last time and somehow automatically "enrolled" me in that site advertised by the annoying three guys in the subcompact. I called that off right away for sure.
