Hi all a while back i replaced my drive gear and cable gear for the speedometer cable, the gears mesh ok but the gear on the speedo cable is one tooth larger than the one that came off, my question is , How will this affect the readout of the speed? I dont know how to gauge the speed with this truck very well because this has been broked since i bought the truck, Thanks for any help anyone can give.
Have someone in a late model car (hopefully with an accurate speedo) follow you and note the difference in the speedos. Cell phones work great for this.
Also you can ask your Ford dealer which gear you need. They will need your tire size and gear ratio and they can give you the correct speedo gear for about $8.
I did this when I changed my gear ratio, and everyone was wanting to send me to a speedo shop, and for around $100 they would make my speedo accurate. The dealer has a book that will tell you what gear for which tire/gear ratio combo you run, and VIOLA! It was perfect!
