Well long story into short story, half ton axles, put crewcab on frame used 92 F350 master cylinder. brakes good. swap out to 85 dually axles.. brakes suck. put on new master cylinder for the 92, brakes still suck. swapped to a 85 master cylinder. now they are Great. just thought it was a little odd that the 92 F350 master cyliinder would not work as good as the 85 f 350 one..
i guess i don't know.. but i thought they where really close.. The main reason i even posted this is so people doing axle swaps can see it, and if there brakes suck. just swapping the master cylinder to the same year the axles came out of might help.
it's gotta be different bore sizes in masters. Bigger bore means less pressure but shorter pedal stroke vs small piston bore = more pressure but longer stroke of pedal to move enough fluid. You should check out the hydroboost brakes man I put one from a 99 f350 I'm my 73 and it has TONS of power...

i thought they where both 1 1/8inch, but i could be wrong. the 92 is one of those aluminum ones, the 85 is all cast. i thought about the hydro boost, in fact i have some of the parts. But i can lock up the 44s on the pavement now. i was going about 50 and slamed on the brakes, the rear tires would lockup.. so i went as fast as i felt safe in reverse and the front tires would lock up... last time my brakes worked that good i only had 35s.. my next upgrade will be rear disks...
