I gotta get the digital camera from my wife! She's had it in her purse for like a week. I haven't posted any pictures of my truck yet.
My seats are pretty ripped up, there's no saving them. They have green vinyl and the cloth parts are a while background with green diamonds....they're sweet!
This is what is in my 77 Explorer Custon, see the seam is coming apart on the driver's side. h.
The funny thing is my dad bought a new 77 Explorer custom and it had the tan seats, no plaid cloth at all. He bought it new off of the line at the Ford dealership where we both worked.

That seat can be fixed if you do it before it gets much worse.
As for the seat in the father's 77 Explorer, the Cloth and Vinyl was standard on Explorers. This comes from the various Explorer Brochures and adds I have. It might have been an optional seat, perhaps?

Yeah, I don't know, I always wondered why his seat was ALL tan (vinyl)and no cloth centers. I know he didn't order the truck, he picked it off of the line. He traded in an orange 73 that had the white stripe across the bottom and up over the wheel wells. He put power steering in it, but he didn't like the manual brakes.
I tried to talk him out of the 77, but he had $5500 burning a hole in his pocket. His was more of a burnt orange than mine, which in the sun looks to be a lite brown metallic. His had the same creme colored stripes but his wheels covers were not creme, but were black on the centers. HE had a 302 / C4, while I have a 300 I6 / C4.
I always thought it was strange how this truck looks more brurnt orange when it is over cast
It's the same basic color as my 1981. It changes at least three shades depending on how the light hits it, from a light brown, to almost a reddish color. They call it Dark Caramel Metallic, or Medium Caramel Metallic in 1981.
Don't have my books handy right now or I'd check what the color is called in 1977.
Ford had a habit of keeping the same color paint, or making very slight hue changes, and changing the name, and color code.
My trucks color goes by two different names depending on what ford book or literature you read, . Crazy...
