Forgot to ask you if it ever had any signs of trouble before this. While this is definitely a problem associated with the forward clutch, this sudden appearance may have something to do with sticking in the valve body. Waiting to hear what appens in 1 & 2.
no forward gears at all
just bought the truck from a guy at work he had no problem with it at all
he did say however that the tranny dipstick tube did blow out of it at one time. it blew most of the fluid out of it he refiled it and drove it home with no trouble. when we drove it home it it did not slip at all. we just parked it to fix some small problems with it before we started driving it. when we went to put it up on ramps to change the oil and tranny fluid it would not go forward in any gear but would go in reverse. i thought it might be a sensor problem.
The only way I can see that happening is if the valve body gasket leaks causing a large flow near the fill tube. You can also get an overflow if water gets in and boils. How did the fluid look coming out. Any oil in the coolant? Wonder if the cooler in the radiator is leaking? That could cause the sticking valve. I checked the bolts on my 97 and they were loose. These only tighten to 8 foot pounds, which isn't much.
no there was no tranny fluid in the radiator.
Also the tranny fluid wasn't burnt. Forgot to mention that when I dropped the tranny pan, the filter was laying loose in the pan.
