so i have a 94 f150 I-6 and sometimes right after i put it in reverse and let off the brake it stalls out
it has done this verrrrrry rarely since i got the truck (like once or twice a year) so i never thought much of it but i got exhaust on it a few weeks ago and since then it has done it like 2 or 3 times
i checked the vaccum lines and they are all fine, one broke a while back but i fixed it
When was your last tuneup? Plugs, possibly wires and fuel filter? May possibly want to clean the Idle Air Control valve if the idle is low. May want to consider running a can of a good fuel injector cleaner through the gas tank.
There is an issue with converter clutches locking up in reverse but your problem does not sound like that. Just seems like a tuneup problem.
this symptom is common on the e4od automatic transmission. is this the trans you have? could possibly be the trans filter not properly seated. they make clips that hold the filter up to prevent it from "dropping" - which can result in what is happening to you.
I set the idle up some with the screw, and it cut the stalling way down. However Il take your advice pull the pan, and replace filter and clips. I also have an 93 bronco, same engine and transmission as my f-150. When it placed in drive, it slips unless you turn off the overdrive, then it shifts fine. once it hits drive , you can flip the overdrive switsh back on the it will go into overdrive fine. Should I pull the pan on it also? someone told me to clean the valve body with wd40, and it will clean it. Il post photos of both my rides soon. Thanks so much for your help.
