Determining spline count

Is there any way to determine the spline count on your driveshaft without actually removing either end?

Should the spline count be the same on both ends of the drive shaft?

Sorry, but I know of no way other than to tear it down to identify the count.

Maybe someone else will chim in.

Determining spline count

A piggyback onto this question, I recently had to rebuild my tranny because I broke the output shaft. When I got the tranny in the yoke wouldn't slip onto the new shaft. The yoke seemed to have the same number of splines.Are there different sizes for the same tranny?
