The transmission on my 89 I6 is on it's last legs so I am looking for a new one. I was reading a post where someone was talking about a transmission with a granny Low and Overdrive. If anyone has any information about this transmission and where to get one I would love to hear from you. Thanks
It's the ZF 5-speed.

Hey thanks alot, but I had one question. Will It fit on an 89 F-150 with a 300? I know it will fit a F-250 with a 300 but I can't find any place that says it will work on a F-150.
I don't see why it wouldn't fit. The bell housing is identical. Maybe it has something to do with the frame mounts, I figured they were identical, but maybe they're not. Perhaps somebody can enlighten us.
A good tranny shop mechanic, that does custom swaps could probably give you advice on the swap.
I am assuming that you have 4 speed in your truck now, not an auto. The ZF S542 will fit the 300. They have the internal slave vs the ZF's with external slaves are for big block engines.
If you can find one for $900 grab it and run. $1500 for a rebuilt is about right but remember a core charge will be added.
In addition to the tranny (again assuming you have a 4 speed T18 or NP)you will also be looking at changing the crossmember, new slave, step joint for the output flange to the driveshaft, new or reworked driveshaft, shifter for the ZF (hopefully it will come with it but if it is rebuilt it will be an extra cost) time and labor to put it in.
While you have the tranny out you may want to think about a new clutch, pressure plate, turn the flywheel and a new pilot bearing.
By the way, if you are going to keep the truck, it is definately worth it!!!
