My 2004 F-150 was recently having some weird electrical problems, such as:
The radio would only work when the truck was in Drive or Reverse.
The starter would continue to crank after the engine was running.
The starter would make an extremely loud banging noise when I turned the truck off.
The ignition would start the truck by itself, whenever the key was in the on position. ( Didn't even have to turn the key to start it)
The reverse lights quit working.
After hours of troubleshooting, the problem was narrowed down to the wiring that goes from the fusebox to the computer. The tubing that the wiring was ran in, was holding water, and it shorted out several wires. I got rid of the tubing, and spliced in some new wires, in place of the shorted out ones. It seems to have fixed the problem so far.
I was just wondering if there was a common problem with the wiring in these trucks holding water, or If I just had a rare problem?
I bought the truck used, however, this problem happened a few days after I bought it, so I think it is possible that the previous owner might have powerwashed the engine before he sold it. I'm going to try to keep under the hood as dry as possible from now on though.
