That is not cool! I contact ATS and they told me it would be $575 for the same turbine housing and 3" downpipe. Sorry, Deano I thought you were already upgraded...
IIRC $575 is the price for the upgrade kit that comes with a new turbine housing outlet housing 3"down pipe and 3" exhaust.
It is $280 for the OUTLET housing not the turbo housing. I wanted to get rid of the small outlet from the factory and lower my egt's. But they did say that if you bought the turbo housing you would be able to spool a lot faster.
Oh really? I am just after the outlet and downpipe anyway. I think the stock outlet is 2 1/4" to 2 1/2" and the new outlet will be 3". And we all know what the stock downpipe looks like. That will be so much better than stock if they ever get them off back order lol. That is so stupid that ford did these things. I have been told that ford did this to the 7.3 IDI motor so the "new and improved" 7.3 would look better is that true
No it was due to a poor design of the factory the fork lifts carrying stuff around crossed the conveyer belt the down pipes were on in several difrent places.
But seriously I've heard that too but after swaping my motor out I know what you will see when you install it, that smashed down litle pipe barely fits in there you have to masauge the pinch weld to fit the new one and most car manufacturers frown on taking a sledge to things to make them fit the just enginer enough clrearance so the after you put the engine and exhaust in the frame you can set the body on and clear it. they did how ever detune these engine to keep the power lower than the first year powerstrokes.
Don't hold your breath on those parts getting to you any time soon. You are getting the *standard treatment* from ATS that most people get. They put you off for weeks or months and tell you different stories on a regular basis, after a while they try to find someone else to lay blame on, but the parts will take forever. I waited well over a month for a downpipe that my dealer was assured was in stock before we ordered it, then they tried to say that they'd never been paid for it ( I had proof that the dealer had pain them within minutes of me ordering it from them , another lie ) it goes on. The dealer ordered it to be drop shipped and they called ats before ordering the thing and were assured it would ship out that day. I got so many different stories everytime I called ATS trying to get my downpipe shipped that it wasn't even funny.
If your stuff ever does get there, make sure to mock the thing up off the truck, the quality control on the downpipes is garbage. Some folks get ones that are so undersized that they can't get them to stay put, others like me had to do extensive grinding on the downpipe just to get the thing where it would poke into their housing ( this is after thoroughly cleaning out the hole on the housing with a wire wheel down to very clean bare metal)
Were you trying to use the down pipe with the stock housing? or were you replacing a 3" that had developed a leak?
In my case, I didn't have a stock turbo, I had an aftermarket ATS to begin with so it already had the 3" round outlet . It was a swap from another truck so I needed a new downpipe, the old one was permanent to the other trucks exhaust.
So if they keep jacking me is there anywhere else that would have an upgraded outlet housing?
Unfortunately, no. If you just have to have the thing, you'll just have to wait until they finally decide to send it. Keep on the phone with them a couple of times a week, the squeeky wheel stands a better chance of finally getting the grease. Only other option is to cancel the order and live without it.
There are other dealers that list the setup for sale,S direct, but all of them have the product drop shipped from ATS, so if you try to cancel and order from somewhere else, you will be back at square one, except at the bottom of the list.
If I ever get a new turbo , it will be from Hypermax. I've bought a cowl induction from them and it got here in a heartbeat, and they were extremely helpful, especially considering that I have a competitors turbo on my truck. and I've never heard any complaints about their customer service.
