I know there have probably been a number of threads regarding tonneau covers but I would like a few opinions on which is the best. I live in Minnesota so I am not so sure about a soft rollup cover but I don't want a one piece fiberglass one either. Any ideas or suggestions on what everyone else likes and has?
I live up near Toronto so we get lots of nasty weather, the best cover in my books is a rollout cover, keeps out the snow & crap, lockable, easy to maintain, great looks, improves MPG's, one of the better ones is the Pace Edwards Full Metal Jack Rabbit, much better than the vinyl covered ones, they fade out over time.
yeah, I once tried the vinyl covered RollnLock rolling cover and it faded after just 2 years and it rattled like crazy too.
I'm a fan of the hard folding covers now. You probably read some of the recent threads but the new Bakflip HD is a nice cover. Fits flush with the rails, looks great, can handle up to 300 pounds of weight on it (like snow, etc.), very secure. And the new FoldaCover G4 cover seems nice too but it sits on top of the rails so it's not as flush. Both are expensive though, from 789 to 799.
Email me if you want more info on the Bakflip, I can tell you were I bought mine.
As I'm goin for a 2010 f150 Platinum just curious, how many inches are left of the cover when folded completely back, does'nt it take up a lot of space as opposed to say 6-7 inches with a rollout?
it still takes up a few inches, but it's all on top of the rails, probably 7 inches or so, I haven't measured it. But underneath, from the top of the rails and down, it's still all open (no canister taking up room like the rolling covers).

For the Bakflip, it is about 8". Some people don't like the fact that it blocks rear vision when it's folded up though. I don't mind as my load typically blocks it too. Here's a pic open...theres a closed pic in my album.
LOL, sorry about the duplicate pics...Looks like Steve and I posted at the same time! BTW, I bought my cover from the same outfit in Calif. that Steve did.
I don't know Steve, they sent me 4/side originally (you only got 3/side?). Maybe it was because the original rails were for the Silverado, but they didn't send any new clamps with the replacement rails so I don't know.
I had a pace edwards bedlocker in my SD. It was nice. Just pushed a button on the remote and it would open and lock in any position. It looked great too. Downside was it took up something like 10 inches of bedspace and cost around $1800. I got the bed extender in my new truck incase i buy a tonneau.
