Rivet Question

Question could I crank up the amps on the welder to like 210 and just cut the suckers out of there? Grind down the heads and then pop? Because today, I cant get them out by hammer on them with a punch. They are in there good.

Big rivots are going to take a lot of power and produce a lot of slag if you try to burn them out with a welder. If they are a bulge type rivet, try drilling the head off. This works great on pop rivets if they are tight or you can get to the back side with vice grips.

It takes a lot of force to punch out a rivet in the frame. Grind it off flush with the frame, then use a good heavy punch and a 3 or 5 lb sledge hammer to knock them out. Using a welder to try and burn them out will cause more problems than help. You will more than likely either fuse the rivet to the frame, or you will burn the frame hole bigger. If you are skilled with a oxy/act torch, you can burn the head off, then grind it flush with frame, then punch out with punch and hammer.

As said above, pop rivets I drill em, frame rivets I take a cutoff wheel and X slot the heads and knock off with a cold chisel then drive them out with the BFH.
