I just did some research about replacing the orginal dizzy. However, I feel that I didn't get my questions answered.
I need to replace the orginal dizzy and I don't want to put a rebuilt one back in. I would prefer to do a upgrade. What would be the best for a little money? The dizzy I'm replacing is on a 70 302. I have already replaced the intake and carb from 2 barrel to 4 barrel and I'm looking at getting headers for it too.
dizzys don't equal cheap a whole lot of the time. it all depends on what you want to do with your truck in the future. If you can get lucky you might find a good one at the junk yard. there are a lot of things you can do with a 302 from what i've heard and i know the guys will chime in.
There are some cheap (comparatively speaking) knock offs out there like PRO-COMP. But I believe you get what you pay for.
If your dizzy is solid except for points and cond. then a quick cheap upgrade is the Pertronix unit and coil.
If not then Mallory, MSD, Accel etc..
i saw a link awhile back for a guy that takes the late 70s durasparks and refurbishes them and sells them for a hundred bucks. but thats for fe, not sure about the 302...
i was stupid and blew all my money on a 500 dollar performance distributors hei which is working well, but the livewires spark plug wires fall apart.
i picked up a cheap hei one off of ebay last year. still works fine, runs better than my old one. i think it was $30 plus about $15 in shipping. i have the pertronix but never installed it.
