Hi again. I was reading some of the service bulletins regarding my truck and am wondering about them. What do these mean, exactly? This is the first I've ever heard of them. Are these things my dealer will fix at no cost, or what? Thanks!
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Dec-02 AT 09:06 PM (EST)]Service bulletins are a means by which a technician can make an easy diagnosis and fix. The problem appears to be common enough to warrant a fix that everyone should know about, but may not be a safety hazard if they don't. It may also not be as widely common that they warrant a full recall.
Whether the dealer takes it upon themselves not to charge you for something that a TSB has been written for is completely up to each one. Usually you only go to the dealer if what's on the TSB is a problem for you. The company doesn't notify you that the problem exists. You have to research it yourself. If the TSB became a voluntary or mandatory recall then the company would be liable for the repair.
